Silvery Moon

The light of the silvery moon reflects off the ocean at Hamoa Bay, just outside of Hana, Maui. Hamoa Beach has been consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Dr. Beach's list of the best beaches around the world ranked Hamoa No. 5 on his "Top 10 List of 2012." Even the legendary Mark Twain described Hamoa perfect crescent as the most beautiful beach in the world in 1866. During the day Hamoa beach is a Mauiland postcard full of tourist, locals and surfers. Late on a warm moonlit night in the winter it is just pure magic. This is the only photo of Hamoa at night that I know of.

This photo was taken late on a moonlit night above Hamoa Beach just outside of Hana, Maui in 1979 using a organic time lapse technique that I developed. It is not a double exposure or photo manipulation and uses only moonlight as a light source. The image is copy of a high res scan of the original 6x7cm medium format transparency.
