There are many stories about the development of the pot that became known around the world as "Maui Wowie", most of it bullshit. I actually thought the name was stupid the first time I heard it, it sure didn't come from Hana. This photo is from real my bud growing days in Hana back in the mid 70's in a far out place, during a era that is long gone.
This photo is part of my Maui buds collection taken between 1976 and 1981 in Hana, Maui, Hawaii. The photo was taken with a 6x7cm camera and the medium format transparency scanned at 10000ppi. I believe the name was coined by a grower on the island of Maui, first name Rusty, spent several days at his house flew back to Honolulu with a pound of it and he came to us many times. it was the bud that was photographed by High Times, some of the best I had smoked on the islands, not like Puna Bud but 3 hits of dealer stash and I was bonkered for the night.
